Living Room Updates

Yesterday I shared a few of the updates I made to our dining room, so today I thought I'd keep the momentum going by panning the camera over to the left and giving you the latest updates to my living room.

We definitely haven't done a whole lot of decorating in either of these rooms, but at least we're starting to see the furniture layout come together.  One of the most recent finds that I'm really stoked about is the round coffee table that you see in the center of the room...

We actually found this piece on a recent shopping spree to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and it was completely random.

Mark and I actually had visited Home Goods right before we went to the ReStore...and it was so ironic because at the Home Goods we had found a round tufted ottoman that looked pretty cool.  The only down side was the price.  It was much more than we wanted to spend. But, as we looked at the ottoman I was telling Mark about how I wanted to find a circular piece to use as a coffee table in the living room.

We left Home Goods empty-handed (this was a separate trip from our lamp shopping adventure), went out to lunch, then decided to check out the ReStore before heading home.

Well, what do you know?  I saw this piece right when we entered the ReStore, and I totally held my breath as I walked over to check out the price tag.  ReStore can be hit-and-miss sometimes...like our family room coffee table that was priced at $50, but we lucked out to purchase it on a 50% off day.

Luckily for me...it was totally a hit!

Sure, the piece is a little banged up...it's got some chips around the edges at the top and scratches all over the surface...but I don't even care!

You see, the plan is to refinish it, so what do I care if it's seen better days?  It's only $5!

My other update was the new tray that I purchased at Home Goods for $15.00.  I know that $15 is a bit more pricey than I typically would spend on a tray, but I loved the faux leather detailing that it had...so I surrendered to it's beauty!

As for the vase of flowers and the ceramic pitcher...well, the vase was just something I picked up at Savers for a few bucks on a 50% off day, and the pitcher was actually a former piece of my grandma's.

The silk flowers were probably the most expensive part of the arrangement, but I even found those at Michaels on a buy-one-get-one day.  Lucky find!

Now that things are starting to piece together I'm getting inspired to begin taking this room (and my dining room) to the next level.  I'd like to paint the walls in a soft blue-gray, add rugs, window treatments, and artwork.  I'd also like to refinish the furniture pieces, and sew some slip-covers for the dining room chairs.

Piece of cake, right?  Haha!

Well, this weekend I'm going to be testing out an idea that I have for making silk flowers look less-fake.  We'll see if it works...it really will just be an experiment, so I'm not going to get my hopes up yet.  I'm also going to test out an idea I have for making cute, but inexpensive placemats.  Wish me luck!

What will you be up to this weekend?

That tray is amazing! And I love the way you pair thrift store finds with meaningful items like your grandmothers vase.
Since I love your blog, I nominated you for a Liebster Award. Check out the details here: http://storypiece.net/2012/06/05/you-like-me-you-really-really-like-me/

Thanks Danielle!

That's awesome! I'll admit, I don't know much about the Liebster Award. Looks like I'm overdue for some research, huh?

Thanks for thinking of me!

xo, Kelli
