Dining Room Updates

Admittedly, I'm trying to redeem myself with this post.

If you caught my earlier post, then you've just learned that the "behind-the-scenes" version of my house frequently looks much different than the images you see in most of my photos.  Now, I'm not ashamed to show you guys that I am not the perfect homemaker...but I also don't have the heart leave you guys today just with images of my dirty laundry.  It just doesn't feel right to me.

And so...a second post is on the agenda for today.  Yep, two posts in one day!  One that's all about my less-than-perfect qualities, and one that shows you the look that I'm working toward in my home.

With that being said, I've made a few changes to my dining room that I'd like to share...

Granted, the dining room, like each of the rooms in my home, is nowhere near what I envision it to be someday.  But, I did add a small furniture cabinet beneath the window, and a "console table" behind the sofa.

I say "console table" because these pieces are actually part of a daybed, which means neither of these pieces was designed to be used in the manner I am using them.  It also means that they might look a bit off...a bit awkward...and possibly like they weren't designed to be used in the way that I am using them (go figure).

So here's the plan...

For the "console table" we need to add a base so that it will be a bit taller, more steady, and look more like an actual table.  We also need to add accessories, and I'm hoping we can include some lamps since the living room does not have a permanent light fixture.  For the cabinet, I think I might actually add a few little legs/feet at the bottom so it looks more like curio cabinet that is meant for a dining room.  The great thing about this little piece is that it actually has a little cubby door that opens up, so I can stash all of my table linens right there by the table!

I'll be sure to add photos of the daybed these pieces came from, so you can get a better idea of how they will truly be repurposed.  I am curious to see if my ideas for them will actually work out, or if they'll just turn out looking really awkward.  I guess we'll just have to see.

Has anyone else repurposed furniture in their home?  I'm curious to see what the biggest transformation has been.  I always love the creativity that is shown by using an item for something other than what it was intended for.  Some of the ideas I've seen on Pinterest have blown me away!  Let me see what you've got!
