Reader Spotlight: Jamie's Armoire Makeover

Woot!  Woot!

Did anyone else sleep in for a little bit today?  I'll be honest, my plan was to wake up this morning at 7:30, but I vetoed that decision when my alarm went off.  It's nice to have executive power over something in this world, right?  Even if it is only the snooze button!

Today I have an awesome project to share with each of you!

It never surprises me that I am surrounded by such talented people, but I've learned that sometimes you have to pry a little bit to get people to admit how creative they really are.  Take this armoire makeover as an example...

Jamie and I are cube neighbors at work, and the other day I happened to overhear her talking with another coworker about an armoire she had been refinishing.  Well, you know me...my ears perk up at even the slightest mention of anything artsy, crafty, DIY'y(?), and so forth...so of course I just had to find out more about it.

Well, yesterday I finally got my hands on these photos and instantly had that "OMG!" response, so I just knew that I had to give Jamie a shout-out on my blog!  Can you believe this piece used to look like this?

Not so attractive in the "before" stage, but Jamie saw something in this thrift store find that was beyond the surface.  Isn't it amazing how far a spark of inspiration can go?

I am so glad Jamie tackled this project, especially since I'm about to start some furniture refinishing projects myself...and I'll admit, I'm a little nervous about it.  It will be good to have someone to compare notes with, and I've already been asking her so many questions about what she recommends for projects like this.

She let me know that the biggest challenge was working with a piece that was not made of solid wood because even though she used primer, the paint would easily scratch off.  In the future, she said she will look for pieces that are made of real wood (rather than particle board) so that the primer and paint can get a better hold.

I know that some of the pieces I'll be refinishing are not made entirely of solid wood, so at least now I know a bit more about what to expect.  I'm seriously so glad Jamie shared this project with me, and allowed me to share it with my readers!  I've posted this project on my Facebook and Twitter pages. Jump on over to "like" or retweet below, and give Jamie a virtual high-five for a job well done!

Has anyone else been working on a furniture makeover project?  What have been the biggest challenges you've encountered?  How is it turning out, or if you've already finished, what was the end result? I'd love to hear about it!

Hi Kelli! I just read through a few pages of your blog. I don't follow it all the time (Decorating and design is not something I'm any good at, and I'm mostly just jealous at how cute everything you make looks) but it's fun to scroll through and see your neat pictures and hear little snippets of how your life is going. :) I hope you have some fun projects in the works!

Thanks Sara!

You are so funny! I've got a whole list of projects in various phases. Some are ready to be typed up, others are still in completion phase, and tons more sitting in the project graveyard just waiting for me to finally pay attention to them! LOL! I don't think it will ever end! But in my world, that's a good thing.

xo, Kelli
