You are my Sunshine

It's no secret that I've been feeling a little couped up in my work cubicle recently.  In fact, I'm embarrassed to have shared my emotional breakdown that happened a few weeks ago...but hey, I've always said this blog would be 100% real.

There's no shame in admitting that life usually throws us more lemons than we'd like, and when life throws me lemons...

...I make art.

Art that is 100% free.  Art that keeps my mind occupied on something else--something fun and creative--which is way better than thinking about stressful things!  Plus, I made this art to spruce up my desk at work...so I consider it a double win!  (See my cubicle Inspiration Board here)

You might have caught that I mentioned this piece of art cost absolutely no $$$.  Always a plus, at least in my opinion!  To make this mosaic-style artwork, I simply used some old paint chips from my collection, a paper cutter, glue, and one of the frames I've been storing for quite some time now.

Chances are, you probably have most of those materials around the house.  Am I right?

To get this look you'll need to cut your paint chips into really thin strips.  I used different types of paint chips so that I would wind up with strips of various lenths and colors, and I kept everything within the yellow and green color family.

Once the strips were cut, I simply used the glue to adhere the strips onto a piece of cardstock.  It was a tedious process, but with my dear companion by my side (sadly, I'm referring to my laptop streaming Hulu videos, rather than my husband.  Shhhh...don't tell.), the time flew by!

I didn't worry too much about color placement.  Instead, I just went with a generally random approach, but every now-and-then I would step back from the piece to make sure the colors were blending well. Then, when I was finished I just trimmed up the edges and placed it in the frame.

You've seen this picture frame pop up in various accessory displays in my guest room (here and here), and that's because I actually have three of these bad-boys.  Yep, three super-cool floating frames that have been holding their stock photo (the one that came with the frame) for over a year now.  Pathetic, I know, but at least I've finally given one of them a higher purpose in life!

Now, I just can't wait to take it to work and see how it looks at my desk.  I definitely think a spruced-up cubicle with be good for my health.  Haha!  Who else needs a color-schemed cubicle to brighten up the workday?  Please tell me I'm not alone!

Ps...did you catch the Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea article I posted on Facebook/Twitter?  If you're starting your summer garden, they'd be a lovely addition!  Be sure to follow/like for the latest updates!
