The Fiesta Bowl

You may have learned from my Super Bowl post a few weeks back that any post title referencing something sporty probably doesn't have much to do with sports.  But since I titled my super bowl makeover after something sporty, I figured this post should follow suit...and the only other football "bowl" I could remember was the Fiesta Bowl...so there you have it.

First, let me just tell you that Savers had another 50% off sale in honor of President's Day, and since my plans for painting my studio over the long weekend were thwarted by a terrible case of the flu (hence the lack of posting this week) I decided some light thrifting might be the best way to ease back into the swing of things.

What else could make me feel better, than a good ol' refinishing project? Like this one...

I took this bowl home for a tiny price-tag of $2.50, but it used to look like this...

At the store I actually passed this bowl a few times before I finally decided to purchase it.  I really liked it's shape, but I also really hate to paint over things that have good characteristics for their own style too.  It was a perfect vintage piece, but I wanted it to look a bit more modern...and so the mind battle began.  Do I take it home, or do I let it find it's way to a home with more vintage style?

Ultimately, I was selfish...

...but I just knew it would look great with my Super Bowl, so I couldn't resist!

The two bowls will probably wind up in the same room, but I don't plan to group them together like this. I'm thinking one might go on the credenza in the master, and the other on a night stand or the bookcase.  We'll see where they ultimately wind up.

On a side note, I realized something very disturbing this weekend.  As I unpacked my latest Savers loot, I realized that I have accumulated stacks, and stacks, of projects that are just waiting to be finished! Take a look at all of the items that I have that need a makeover...

You may have noticed from the "before" pictures above, the bowl was not the only thing I painted this weekend.  I started a few other projects, but didn't even make a dent in the stack of projects I have waiting for me.

Oh, if only there were more time in a day...I could get more projects done, and maybe even get some sleep too.  Ha!

So what have you been up to lately?  Did you find any good deals this past weekend?  You know, I've been doing so much thrifting lately that I think it's time to get me a splurge item sometime soon.  I'm feeling the need to just spend a bit of money on something that I really like, or something I've had my eye on for a long time.  Hmmm...maybe I'll have to browse through my wish list items sometime soon!
