Welcome Aboard!

Today is a happy day for me, and let me tell you why...

Anyone who has followed this blogging journey of mine knows all about the ups and downs I've encountered along the way.  For anyone who is just joining in the fun, let me just summarize by explaining that my big hopes and dreams for A Happy Place Called Home often find themselves held captive by the limitations of my own time availability, health, and energy levels.

Sure, I dream of rockin' posts five times per week, mastering super-creative projects each weekend, completing ah-inspiring room transformations throughout my home to share with you all, finishing the design of the incomplete pages across this site, writing regularly for SheKnows.com, and...oh yeah...let's add writing a novel into the mix...

...but, I'm just one me...and that always means that something has got to give.  Whether it means putting off writing a post to write a SK article, or putting off web design to maintain a 5-per-week posting schedule, the past few years have felt like a constant tug-of-war between all of my interests.

For quite some time I've been looking for a way to balance it all, and I finally think I have found a solution!

Have you ever found yourself thinking, "I wish there were another me so that I could get everything done?"  Well, that's what makes this day so happy for me!

No, I haven't suddenly found a magical way to clone myself -- it's even better than that!  I've found someone who is like me (only pumped up on steroids), with similar interests, goals, and passions as my own.

You've seen this person pop up on my blog before (remember this post, this post, this post, this post, this post, and this post?), but a few weeks ago, after having a "duh" moment, I finally invited my dear friend, Jana Randall to join me as a partner-in-crime on AHPCH.

She said yes!  ...and boy, was I excited!

The funny thing about me and Jana is that we often joke that if we could have a baby together, it would look something like this...

...Because Martha is the closest thing to the "perfect woman" that exists on this planet...and if you gave all of Jana's strengths to me, or all of my strengths to Jana you might just have a Mini-Me-Martha running around!

I think this is what makes us such good friends.  We both can support one another, and offer encouragement, honesty, and advice.  Plus, we both have a passion for finding happiness in life, even when times are tough and the waters seem murky.

Another thing that makes me super excited about joining up with Jana, is that she can offer you so many insights that I cannot.  I can't write about parenting, but Jana is the mother of two adorable kids. I can't write about fashion, but Jana is Mrs. Fashion-Savvy.  I can't write about a consistent exercise routine, but Jana always finds time to get her sweat on.  In my opinion, she is Super Woman, and I'm sure it won't take long for you guys to see it too.

But, don't take my word for it.  I did a little Q&A with Jana to help you all get to know one another. Take it away, Jana...

Q:  If you could be given any gift, what would it be?

There are sooo many to choose from! Probably a night at a hotel with just the hubby and I.  We are always talking about it and planning it, but we never bring it to fruition.

Q:  What is your favorite TV show of all time?

Friends.  I am a product of the 90’s – I cried, no scratch that, balled during the season finale.  “He’s her lobster”. I am definitely a combo of the three characters: independent and fashion conscious like Rachel, OCD and a rule follower like Monica, and just a little crazy like Phoebe.

Q:  What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Check my phone.  Horrible habit.  Damn iPhone.

Q:  What is the most played song in your ipod?

Ummm. I don’t know.  I love the shuffle function.  I can skip the songs that don’t fit my mood, and I don’t have to hear the same things over again.  Although, I do believe that my iPod has a Pandora like function, as it will play the same types of songs based on what I skip over.  That, or I just conform to the 2500 songs that I shuffle through.

Q:  What is the most embarrassing album you have ever owned?  Do you still have it?

Ace of Base.  “ I saw the sign…” and no.  But I would be open to buying it again … for nostalgic purposes, of course ;)

Q:  What did you want to be when you were little?

A doctor.  An OBGYN to be specific.  My mom had children when I was old enough to understand, and for some reason I loved being a part of that. I still watch Baby Story and wish I would have done something in that field.  I’m a sucker for a prego J

Q:  If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Play piano.  And the thing is, I could probably learn if I wanted to.  My husband plays it, but I think I would just throw things at him when I got frustrated and my marriage is a bit more important than that.

Q:  Which celebrity do you look think you look like most?

In HS, I was told I was Kristen Dunst’s twinnie.  Now, I am not sure… You tell me!

Q:  When you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you do to pass the time?

Hahahahaha… free time? Me? Yeah, right.  If I did ever get the chance, I would say read.. but I would probably end up just cleaning.

Q:  What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?

I was too smart for my own good, and by smart, I mean that I had a smart mouth.  Smart mouth = a lot of time outs.

Q:  What is the first thing you bought with your own money?

I have no idea.  I was a bit spoiled as a child.  My husband feel’s the pangs of this today.

I hope you will join me in giving Jana a warm welcome.  She will be back later this week to tell you all about her latest thrift store adventure, and she'll be posting over on the Project Self blog too.  My hope is that this blog will become an even happier place now that two people will be pushing that publish button!  Welcome aboard, Jana!
