Tip of the Week: There's No Such Thing as Too Much Bling

Well, this isn't my official Pinterest Challenge project, but since my real project is still in the works, I guess this will have to do.  But don't you worry.  I'm not stingy.  If you read all the way to the bottom of this post, I'll give you a sneak-peak at the real project I've been working on.

A few weeks ago, I gave everyone the opportunity to vote for Mark and I’s first official pumpkin since we’ve been married.  Well, the weekend before last I collected tallied up the votes and got to work, using the winning pumpkin as my inspiration.

It was quite an interesting race to say the least!  Throughout the period when the polls were open, I watched as the votes flooded in.  For the first few days, “Any of These” was in the lead, so I began prepping my carving tools.  But just when I thought the winner had been chosen, “Black and White” and “Glitter” pumpkins made a leap to the front with B&W pumpkins ultimately taking the victory lap!

I can’t say that I was surprised (since each of these pumpkin options are incredibly adorable), and I’m happy to finally share my very own B&W creation!

Feast your eyes on my bling’d out pumpkin:

Now, I know what you’re thinking…yes, this pumpkin is super-adorable…but the good news is that it is also really easy to create.  Trust me, anyone can do it!

So, here’s the skinny…start with some pumpkins (obviously)…

…Then, clean them up and give em’ a few coats of paint…

I used acrylic craft paint for most of my pumpkins, but then I ran out so I used some of the leftover paint I had from the paint samples from the guest room.

Then, once the paint had dried, I took some scrapbooking stickers that I found at Wal-Mart for $1.00 each and placed them around the surface of the pumpkin…

To keep from running out of stickers before the pumpkin had been covered, I turned the pumpkin regularly as I was placing the stickers.  This allowed me to see where the gaps were, and gauge how many stickers were left to fill those gaps.

…and viola!  Nice and simple!

But, because the glitter pumpkins made such a valiant effort in its fight for victory, I could not overlook the opportunity for more bling.

…and so, I made some glitter pumpkins too!

For these pretty pumpkins, I simply sprinkled glitter all over them while the paint on the second coat was still wet.

Sorry, I couldn't get a shot "in process" because my fingers were covered in sparkles, but I think you get the idea.  I definitely found it beneficial to have a good drop cloth, as well as a cookie sheet to catch all of the runaway glitter!

But, look how shiny they are!

…and how they pick up the light!

And here’s the whole bunch…

Sorry, I ran out of time, so I wasn't able to finish the big pumpkin (I had a Nightmare Before Christmas theme in mind)...hence the orange you see at the bottom.

So, we'll just focus on the pumpkins I was able to finish...

So, what do you think?  Are you a fan of sparkling pumpkins, or would you prefer pumpkins with a spookier spin to them?  Have any of you posted pictures of your Halloween pumpkins that you want to link us up to?

I hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween, and that everyone stays safe, gets lots of candy, and pulls at least one spook em’ prank!  As for me, I’m hoping it’s going to be a quite night.  Here’s hoping!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

PS...if you're curious about my real Pinterest Challenge project, I'll give you a few hints.  Hint 1:  I'm working with wax paper again (just like my chandelier project from the last Pinterest Challenge).  Hint 2: This time, there are butterflies involved...take a peak...(check back this weekend for the reveal).

I love your pumpkin creativity! It's beautiful! I wish I was smart enough to figure that out. It looks fab! If you don't mind I'll probably end up blogging about it sometime soon. :)

Thank you! I found inspiration from those stickers. I wasn't sure if they would stick to the pumpkin, but I had to try! I certainly don't mind if you share them with your readers.

Thanks for stopping by!

Xo, Kelli
